“An error occurred while starting the solver module.” – Maybe licence problem?

When I´m going to solve a model, Workbench shows me this error message: "An error occurred while starting the solver module. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section in the ANSYS Mechanical User Guide for more information."

I read all those closed discussions and non of them helped me, I tried everything: uninstall the program, change directory, run as administrator, etc.

I´m using the 19.1 student version and I think that problem may be at licence or licence server.

      Can someone help me please?

First step is to make sure your model will solve on a working installation of ANSYS Student 19.1, to rule out a problem with your model.

Please create a Workbench Project Archive .wbpz file and attach it to your post above. I will download that, test your model on my computer, then reply with the results.

      Regards,
      Peter

There is a section in ANSYS Help Documentation at Mechanical Application >> Mechanical User's guide >> Troubleshooting >> Problem Situation which discusses this problem scenario. I hope that would be helpful.

      Best Regards,

I already tried everything including the Ansys Help Documentation at Mechanical User´s Guide. It didn´t work.

If someone could help me sharing my screen and seeing the problem itself per skype, I´d be glad to do it

The Archive .wbpz is attached. Thanks in advance for helping me!

      Henrique,

There have been posts saying to use only English characters in folder and file names.  I found this in your archive...

Please make a folder called C:Ansysdatatest

Save As your project using test.wbpj (this archive has the name teste.wbpj which is okay) into that folder.

      Then try to solve.

I ran your model on a Full License and it ran without issue.

      Regards,

      Peter

I tried and it didn´t work as the other options. The problem isn´t the model, so I already discarted this options. Can it be a Windows Update problem? Or my system?

When the model fails to solve, RMB on the Solution branch in Mechanical Outline and select Open Solver Files Directory. In that directory, find Solve.out and if that exists, put that in a zip file and attach to your reply, or say that it does not exist.

What is your Userid on the computer?  Make a Userid that has only English characters.

What is your Computer name?  Make a Computer name that has only English characters.

      Regards,

      Peter

Solve.out does not exist. I attached picture from the generater files at Open Solver FIles Directory.

      My Userid is Henrique

My computer name is also Henrique.

      All have only English characters.

I don't work for ANSYS, so have limited access to troubleshooting license issues.  I hope an ANSYS employee will respond with what to try next.

      Thanks a lot Peter!

Can someone help me with my problem, please?

      Henrique,

This doesn't look like a licensing problem, as the error would state something about failed checkout or licensed feature not found etc.

Looking at the model that Peter ran using a full commercail license, it's looks like you might possibly be running into the node/element limits of the free Student Product. Sometimes the limit error isn't as obvious as we'd like it to be, becuase other solver errors can be triggered depending on the simulation beinmg performed. I can't be sure of this, but I suggest that you check the model size/mesh refinement. Try and reduce the complexity of the model/mesh and see if it solves with the Student product license.

      Good luck. Please report back.

      pgl,

I ran this on my second computer with the Student license for 19.1 and it ran without any error.

      Thanks for confirming Peter.

So this looks like a non-repreatable error "for you" when you run the model - This leads me back to Henrique's earlier comment about this being a "Windows update issue" on his particular system. I'm not sure why he stated that, perhaps the model ran fine prior to a recent OS update? Henrique, if you are reading this can you chime in with your PC hardware and Operating System status (ie, What version of Windows, and your CPU, memory configuration).  This will at least let us confirm if the OS version is supported, and that there's enough hardware horsepower and RAM available.

I just formated my computer drive and now it worked!

I think that It could be a system problem with Windows update, as said above. I have enough RAM memory and processing capacity.

      Now it´s working perfect!

      Thanks all for the help

Hi I'm having the same problem in the program. I installed the program on disk d Is this affects the program

D is fine as long as it's a local disk drive, not a network mapping drive.

does this happen to all projects or just certain ones ?

      Thanks,

      Hi,

I am having exactly the same problem "An error occurred while starting the solver module. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section in the ANSYS Mechanical User Guide for more information". I already have read all the posts I could find and nothing helped.

It happens for all the ANSYS projects that I created a year ago using v18 (can't remember exactly which one). My laptop is a Windows 10, 64-bit system and I have plenty of Hard drive space and RAM memory and administrative privileges. I even performed a "soft-reset" and installed version Academic Student 2019 R1 - neither my previous projects or new ones work.

      Additional facts:

      • When I open the solver directory, there is no Solver.out file.

      • All the folders have only English characters, as well as my user and computer IDs

      • Renaming the C:UsersluisdAppDataRoamingAnsys v193 file to v193.old did not work.

      •  I checked the name references for the loads and boundary conditions and none of them were modified from one release to another.

      • I managed to use FLUENT, though, but I can't open it from the workbench window and have to use the CMD:

                                   cd C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv193fluentntbinwin64

                                   fluent ^-r19.3.0 2ddp -meshing -tm8 -t8

Here is the output from a CMD license check:

      Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.18362.476]

      (c) 2019 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Could you please help me? Is this an installation problem? I have already reinstalled version 2019 R1 and didn't work.

      Thanks
