Ansys EmployeeThe material property data of sorbothane can be found from the following web site:
Sorbothane® Technical Data Sheet - Material Properties & More.
According to this web site, sorbothane behaves like a viscoelastic material. Viscoelastic material model is available in Autodyn and can be applied to a material as Strength model. The Autodyn viscoelastic material model requires these three parameters:
- Instantaneous Shear Modulus G0
- Static Shear Modulus or Long term shear modulus G_inf
- Viscoelastic Decay Constant Beta.
The Instantaneous Shear Modulus can be taken from the Shear Modulus at the highest strain rate. The Shear Modulus obtained from the lowest strain rate is corresponding to the Long Term Shear Modulus or Static Shear Modulus G_inf. The Viscoelastic Decay Constant BETA can be calculated from the equation
BETA = -ln(G_inf / G0) / TT is the time duration from the lowest strain rate test. The Equation Of State (EOS) of the material sorbothane can take the simplest form of Linear Elastic, unless you have more material property data for the nonlinear EOS such as Shock EOS if you want to simulate the material behavior under extreme loadings such as high velocity impact.

Tensile Test Simulation Best Practices
It is fascinating to compare experimental and simulation test results for a tensile test specimen. The ability to conduct tests virtually, rather than physically, utilizing virtual simulations for testing not only increases efficiency but also leads to significant cost savings. In this crosstalk, we will address some of the challenges typically encountered in uniaxial tensile simulations.
