\u201csave the date\u201d largely depends on <a href=\"https:\/\/dev7.webdevonline.net\/destinationwedding\/blog\/how-far-in-advance-to-plan-a-destination-wedding\/\">how much time you have between booking your destination wedding and the actual date of the events<\/a>. You also want to strike a balance of not making your guests feel obligated to attend given there will be an associated cost with attending your destination wedding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our typical planning schedule (or at least the goal!) is you have everything secured about 16 months prior to your wedding date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of our clients send a save the date as soon as the contract is signed so that friends and family can start planning accordingly and follow that up with the invitation about 2 months later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_long_before_a_destination_wedding_should_you_send_invitations\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How long before a destination wedding should you send invitations?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planning a destination wedding is quite different than planning a wedding at home and the same is true for your invitations. When getting married at home, you can probably send your invitations 3-4 months in advance and be totally fine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you should send your invitations to your destination wedding may be dictated by the terms of your contract with the resort. Each resort differs slightly in their dates for payments and penalties so you may &#8211; or may not &#8211; have flexibility on how soon you need to send our your invitations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s work backward with a hypothetical example with a wedding date of <strong>October 3<\/strong> to illustrate a <a href=\"https:\/\/dev7.webdevonline.net\/destinationwedding\/blog\/how-far-in-advance-to-plan-a-destination-wedding\/\">potential destination wedding timeline<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>14-18 months out<\/strong>: Contact signed and Save the Date sent<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>9-12 months out<\/strong>: Booking site live, invitations sent and start accepting bookings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>March<\/strong>: Initial guest deposits due<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>July<\/strong>: Guest final payment due<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this hypothetical example your guests would have from October (when you send invites) until March (the last date for deposits) to commit to attending your destination wedding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>All this is to say that we recommend sending your destination wedding invitations 9-12 months in advance<\/strong> once your booking site is live so your guests have enough time to plan and commit to attending and aren\u2019t rushed in their decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_should_destination_wedding_invitations_include\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What should destination wedding invitations include?\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal with the booking site we build for our clients is that you can limit how much information you need to include in your destination wedding invitations. Some key information you\u2019ll want to include in your invitation:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wedding date and time<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suggested travel dates \u2013 most resorts have at least a 3-night minimum so it\u2019s helpful to recommend when guests should plan to arrive and depart.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The URL and\/or QR code to the booking site<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Destination \u2013 Make sure to include the city and the resort because, for example, there\u2019s a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moon Palace<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in both Jamaica and Mexico and a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Blanc<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in both Cancun and Cabo (both in Mexico!)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RSVP information \u2013 will the booking site serve as the RSVP or will you require a different method?
